Weddings and Parties: The Disney Teen Beach Movie Party

Have you seen it? If you haven’t seen it yet, I’m sure you’ve at least heard about it. @Disney has been up to it again…creating another amazing movie full of singing, dancing and fun for kids of all ages. Think High School Musical set in a Frankie/Annette 60’s style beach party with a little West Side Story mixed in.

We are HUGE Disney fans at our house. I’m sure living minutes away from the Happiest Place on Earth doesn’t hurt, but with the amount of time that my kids spend watching @The Disney Channel, I’m sure they would be huge fans anyways! After months of watching commercials and little sneak peeks of what was going to debut on July 19th, my kids were practically bursting at the seams to watch this new movie. I am always looking for a reason to throw a party, and this seemed like the perfect excuse! The kids invited a few friends over to celebrate the release and we partied like it was 1960…on the beach. 😉

I had only seen a few hints of what might be in the movie when I designed the backdrop for this table. It looked like there would be a grass shack and I knew I wanted one too!:)I purchased a few fence posts at home depot ($1.65) each, nailed them together, then used a piece of foam core cut in half and topped with grass skirts to form the roof. I love it when ideas in my head actually turn out looking just like I hope in real life!:)

I wanted to keep the drinks and food simple and in a core color palette of turquoise and lime green…since that’s what the logo had looked like that I had seen. I added in orange to liven it up a bit. Blue and Green @HawaiianPunch and a few mandarin orange @IZZE drinks were kid friendly, and the #HawaiianPunch was budget friendly too! $1.98 for a gallon at @WalMart.

For food I used white platters with brown sugar sand for display. White powdered mini donuts on orange and green chevron straws were cute and fun looking while also being budget friendly.

I added salt water taffy (pun intended) in small buckets blue and green buckets from the Target dollar bins, and orange suckers topped with beach ball printables I made to match the color scheme in .99 cent orange pails from Party City.

Ashley was so excited when she saw the cute Disney Teen Beach Movie Clothing collection at @Target, you know we had to get the skirt and hat. 😉

I am SO lucky to have the uber talented Elizabeth from Lizy B Bakes living close to home! I emailed her totally last minute with an idea for some cookies and it was like she read my mind! They were perfect! I asked her to make me some surf boards on sticks too so that I could use them as the topper for my cake. They were PERFECT!! (and TOTALLY delicious as always!)

I was going to make blue jello, but after talking to my Aunt Lani she came up with the cutest idea to add “sand” and an umbrella. I’m so glad I did because it was ADORABLE!!:)Simple make your jello and then add crushed up sugar cookies on top for sand.

For dinner we served “sand” wiches, SUN chips, and fruit kabobs. I found plates and napkins at Target that matched the colors and added some wooden cutlery that I glittered the handles of for silverware.

For favors I made these little green bags from Michaels and added a surf board printable I created. I let each of the kids take a sucker and some salt water taffy home as well as a surfboard cookie.

Before I even came up with the idea for this party, the people at Kleenex contacted me and asked if they could send over some of their new hand towels for me to try out. I am a little bit (ok, a lot bit) of a germ freak, so I actually already owned a box and told them that I LOVED them. Having 10 kids over to eat and watch a movie was the perfect excuse to test them to their limits! 😉 I don’t know about you, but the hand towel in my bathroom is always wet, filthy, and usually on the floor, since little people are sometimes too lazy to hang it back up on the towel rack. Needless to say, it is very less than appealing to wipe your clean hands on!:)It was SO nice to have a box of Kleenex Hand Towels on hand to use instead! My bathroom stayed tidy and I didn’t have to stress quite as much about what germs were being passed around amongst those ten little munchkins. I love them now, and they will really be my friend during cold and flu season!

Since I wanted to send the surfboard cookies home as favors, I decided to whip up some simple clam cookies. It took about 15 minutes and $6 dollars in supplies to make these. They were super cute and tasty and the kids loved them. I’ll be sure to post a tutorial soon!:)

The kids all had a great time and it was a lot of fun to put together. The movie is a huge hit and I can’t wait for Disney’s Teen Beach Movie 2 and another reason to party! 😉

Have a great day!
