Make This: My Heart’s a Stereo Homemade Valentine and free printable

I have been desperately trying to come up with something clever for Andy’s valentines this year. Boys are hard to begin with, but then when they get older it gets even more difficult to be creative and fun, but not too cutesy. We were rockin out in the car the other day to our favorite song of the moment Gym Class Heroes: Stereo Hearts and it hit me!! My heart’s a stereo…it beats for you! The challenge became building a stereo out of candy. Well…i think it came out pretty cute…what do you think?

A funny side note…when I asked Andy if he knew what a stereo was he said “nope.” Feeling a little dated here!! Anyways, he loved them and thinks they are totally fun…even if he does have to explain to all the kids what a stereo is. lol!!

Would you like to create these yourself? Here’s what you’ll need:

-large (movie theater box size) box of sweetarts (Walmart or the Dollar Store are the cheapest I’ve found)

2 small boxes of lemonheads or similar

2 large chocolate coins

2 medium chocolate coins (you can find all these coins in bags at party city in their candy section)

1 small box of nerds

2 rolos

if you want to create the handle you’ll need about 6″ of ribbon. Tie a knot at each end and then glue the handles at the knots to the top of your stereo.

You’ll also need this free printable message for the back of your stereo. You know I love you guys!! Cut them to about 3.5x 5.5 size.

Valentine Free Printable: O-fish-ally be mine tags

Ok, here they are as promised!! I hope these make it easy for you to create! You can either use a 1.5 inch circle punch, or cut them out by hand. I would suggest printing them on a heavier weight cardstock. I just finished this years edition of Andy’s valentines and I can’t wait to share!! Stay tuned!!

Well, valentine plans must be in full swing!! I am aware that these have been getting a “little” attention on pinterest and craftgawker due to the number of emails I’ve been receiving regarding the frosted pillow boxes. :) I unfortunately ordered them from a wholesale supplier of mine, without realizing that they would cause a frenzy!! So, I’ve decided to make them available here to you all. I have placed an order for them and they will be arriving by late next week, in time for me to get them out to any of those of you that are interested. I will send them first class mail and I am pricing them in packages of 10 boxes. Please order multiples if you need more than 10. (Paypal button is at the end of the post.)

These were created using frosted pillow boxes (the 3.5×5 size), a little satin ribbon, a 1.5 inch circle punch, a 2 inch scallop punch and some goldfish crackers. you know, a little salty to cut through all the sweets these little ones will be getting.

To make them easier to create I will also provide a free download for the tag, how does that sound?? That means all you need to pick up is some fun ribbon, and the fish! If you wanted to do them as candy valentines they woud also be fun with swedish fish.

i love love love the pink and orange combo, but to “boy” these up it would be really cute with a blue ribbon and tag too. blue and orange is always so striking! I will make the free printables in an orange option and a pink option so you don’t even have to go the extra step of buying colored cardstock to put under your white tag if you’d like. You will be able to just punch them out with a 3″ scallop or circle punch and ta-da!

Creative Gift Giving: Upcycled Clearance item turned into a fun gift wrap station

It’s here folks!! The Christmas rush is officially on!!! Just about 12 more days and it’s the deadline! I LOVE the hustle and bustle of this time of year. So, you’re trying to think of something fun to give your friend or neighbor for the annual gift exchange?? Here’s a fun idea. I made this a while back and forgot to share it here. It took me all of about 45 minutes to complete. Can’t beat that!! I know I have mentioned it several times before, but I have a deep love for Homegoods, yep deep, undying love. It’s where I spend most of my cash. I can browse the aisles for hours. As a matter of fact last Saturday they had to escort me out. I closed the place down. One of my favorite things to do is check out the clearance asile for unloved items that can be transformed into something new and loved again. A few months ago I spotted this cute little library card set. The cards themselves weren’t anything fancy, but the box they came in was so cute I just knew I had to do something with it. I wasn’t sure what, but knew I could think of something. I think it found it’s calling:

I turned it in to a box of assorted homemade gift tags. There are tags with ribbons, regular tags and some little cards with envelopes. Also included are a date stamp (i think it’s fun to date cards so that if you save them you can remember when you received it) a small ink pad and a nice black pen. What do you think??? Wouldn’t that make a great gift for a neighbor or friend?? All the tags they need for their gift wrapping this season??

I LOVE to wrap gifts and so a little handmade touch like this would really jazz them up. It was SO EASY!!! What really made it so easy was the “tis the season” line from Teresa Collins that was in my stash at the time. It is so cute. The pre-made tags are all on ONE sheet of paper, you just cut them out. The ribbon tags I made by just tracing a tag shape onto her cute papers (8×8 and 12×12 find them here) , the cards I just used her pre-made and already die-cut cards, and her cute stamp is on the front of the green card. I LOVE it when it is so easy to make something so cute and fun looking. I seriously just cut some stuff up and that was IT!! There are so many cute christmas lines on the market right now, just head to your local scrapbook store and you can find something you love! These cards measure about 3×2…I found the envelopes at a floral supply store

Once everything was neatly tucked inside I slid the lid on, tied it up with some ribbon and added a handmade tag on the outside.

Now who wouldn’t want that??? So search the clearance aisles of your local stores and see what you can create!

Make This: THanksgiving Turkey Cookies

It was Ashley’s turn to take snack to school yesterday. As much as I sometimes dread coming up with something fun to send with her (she ALWAYS asks for something special) but, I also realize that my days of having someone little ask me to make them something special are numbered…pretty soon they’ll probably be embarassed of me, SO I’m going to take full advantage while I still can! She gets such a kick out of it and the smile on her face is totally worth all the work!! I kept seeing pictures of these all over pinterest and decided to give it a whirl…at 11pm. Not so smart! Yes, they are a little labor intensive, but so fun!

Here’s what you’ll need:
mini reeses peanut butter cups
oreos…double stuff are the best
whoppers
candy corn (5 or 6 per turkey)
orange icing (i used candy melts so they would harden faster)
chocolate chips (i melted these down in the microwave and used them to fuse the PB cup and the whopper onto the oreos and the piece of candy corn onto the face so they would harden and stay put…i thought it might work better than icing)
white icing

I was just winging it from the pictures that I saw online (yes, pun intended…winging it…turkey wing…get it?? lol!! it’s late!) I was going to make a tutorial for you, but then I was too lazy and found this great video online to help! Yours will probably turn out better than mine if you watch the video!

Make This: Halloween Mummy Mini Pizzas

I’m really trying to make this week before halloween tons of fun for the kids. I have all kinds of easy, fun things planned that we can do at home together. We kicked today off with a fun lunch. These Mummy Mini Pizzas are SUPER easy and fun for the kids to make. You’ll be amazed at how long they’ll sit at the table creating their masterpieces. It is SO cute!! You’ll just need a few simple ingredients…toasted english muffins, pizza sauce, sliced olives, pepperoni (if the kids want it) and string cheese (one for each pizza they want to make).

Add a few apple lips and bones to your mummies and you are all set for a spooky lunch!

Halloween Rewind: A few of my favorite Halloween Ideas

We’re one week out! Can you believe it? Ocotber has really flown by! I wanted to take today to share a few of my favorite halloween ideas from the blog since you still have a week!!

Halloween Cats Tags

Gross looking, but yummy treats for all your parties…
Ok, warning, this is a little gross looking but I thougt it was an AWESOME idea for a little snack at your next party. I found it months agoand have been waiting for the perfect moment to share, i thought it was that funny…

Doesn’t that just look wrong??!! LOVE IT!! Simply take mini marshmallows on the end of white sucker sticks and dip thm in caramel or peanut butter. Yum.

Fun DIY decor for your house:

To make:

1. Print a black and white copy of a portrait on printer paper and cut out. (If you don’t want to use your own portraits I like to find old pictures on flickr, just search for antique or old portraits)

2. TO “age” the picture, brush it lightly with a sponge dipped in a solution of a few drops of black acrylic craft paint and water. Let the paper dry.

3. Cut a piece of cardstock the same size of the photo and glue to the back of the photo to make it a little more sturdy.

4.With an X-Acto knife cut out the eyes of the picture’s subjects piercing through the cardstock and creating holes about 1/4 inch in diameter.

5. Remove the glass from your frames and stick the pictures in there.

6.Insert mini red LED chistmas lights through the back of the eyeholes. It works best to group these frames like in the picture, since you’re dealing with a strand of 25feet of lights! Then you can use more of the lights. Replace the frame’s backing securing with tape if necessary to help hold the lights in place. Drape with cobwebs and you’re done! You can add paper fangs to a few of the pictures if you want to for a little extra fun!

Fun treat cones for those extra special trick or treaters…

I love these treat cones for any holiday…here is a cute halloween version from Country Living Mag.

YOU WILL NEED
-11″ x 14″ card stock
-1 yard each cream and black bookbinding or construction paper
-1 yard each assorted ribbons
-spray glue
-1/4″ hole punch
-stapler
-scissors and pinking shears

Cut 10″ squares of card stock and black and cream Japanese bookbinding paper (source: talasonline.com) or construction paper. Adhere the black paper to the card stock with spray glue. Wind black square into a cone and staple closed. Cut across top to even out the opening.
