Make This: My Heart’s a Stereo Homemade Valentine and free printable

I have been desperately trying to come up with something clever for Andy’s valentines this year. Boys are hard to begin with, but then when they get older it gets even more difficult to be creative and fun, but not too cutesy. We were rockin out in the car the other day to our favorite song of the moment Gym Class Heroes: Stereo Hearts and it hit me!! My heart’s a stereo…it beats for you! The challenge became building a stereo out of candy. Well…i think it came out pretty cute…what do you think?

A funny side note…when I asked Andy if he knew what a stereo was he said “nope.” Feeling a little dated here!! Anyways, he loved them and thinks they are totally fun…even if he does have to explain to all the kids what a stereo is. lol!!

Would you like to create these yourself? Here’s what you’ll need:

-large (movie theater box size) box of sweetarts (Walmart or the Dollar Store are the cheapest I’ve found)

2 small boxes of lemonheads or similar

2 large chocolate coins

2 medium chocolate coins (you can find all these coins in bags at party city in their candy section)

1 small box of nerds

2 rolos

if you want to create the handle you’ll need about 6″ of ribbon. Tie a knot at each end and then glue the handles at the knots to the top of your stereo.

You’ll also need this free printable message for the back of your stereo. You know I love you guys!! Cut them to about 3.5x 5.5 size.

Valentine Free Printable: O-fish-ally be mine tags

Ok, here they are as promised!! I hope these make it easy for you to create! You can either use a 1.5 inch circle punch, or cut them out by hand. I would suggest printing them on a heavier weight cardstock. I just finished this years edition of Andy’s valentines and I can’t wait to share!! Stay tuned!!

Let’s Party: Kid’s party ideas: Throw a bakery birthday

Throwing this little party was SO much fun!!! And, believe it or not, it was surprisingly easy too. If you’re looking for a fun and easy idea for your little one’s birthday this year, maybe this will work for you too!

I wanted the house to resemble a bakery counter. I made a simple sign with cardstock and some poster board and the help of my great neighbor Karen’s cricut machine. I set the island full of cookie sheets of homemade cookies, cupcakes to be decorated, donuts…etc. When the girls arrived they were each given a cute apron and a chef’s hat with a matching yoyo on the front to wear while they were baking. The talented Bobbi from Bobbityboo on etsy made the aprons and hats…they were SO cute!

We kicked things off by making sugar cookies. The girls rolled the dough, cut the shapes and made a giant mess…they were having so much fun!

Once the cookie fun was done I whisked them away to bake them while the girls decorated pink bakery boxes. I picked them up at my local donut shop for $1 a piece. They probably would have sold them to me for 50 cents, but since the lady looked at me like I was nuts when I told her I wanted to buy just boxes…not donuts, I offered her $1 a piece.

I collected stickers, rhinestones, glitter, die cuts and all sorts of other fun scrapbook supplies from my never ending stash and let the girls go to town. I labeled each box with a blue polka dot flower that had their initial stamped in the center to identify them and tie them into the rest of the party decor.

then we played pin the sprinkles on the cupcake… By then the cookies were baked and cooled and I brought out the decorating supplies. We spent some time decorating cookies and cupcakes, sang happy birthday and ate till their bellies were full and opened presents. Each guest then took their pink bakery boxes that they had decorated and filled them with goodies that they had made and some from the bakery counter to take home and share with their families.

Ashley STILL talks about it. I have to say that aside from making some cookie dough and cupcakes ahead of time, there really wasn’t a whole lot of prep. It was fun and easy and a lot of “bang for my buck.”

make this: cute handmade boy candy car valentines

Happy Valentine’s day!! I know it’s a little late to throw these together, but Andy came home with one the other day from his little valentine party and I thought it was too cute and needed to be shared. With a little hot glue and some fun candy, you can create these in a matter of minutes and delight the little boys in your life. File this in the “to make next year” folder.

sorry it took me so long to get these up! I was making them until late last night and had to wait to take a picture today. these were created using frosted pillow boxes (the 3.5×5 size), a little satin ribbon, a 1.5 inch circle punch, a 2 inch scallop punch and some goldfish crackers. you know, a little salty to cut through all the sweets these little ones will be getting.

i did use photoshop to create the tag, but you could just as easily do these in word. simply print them small enough to be punched out by the 1.5 inch circle punch. i simply cut the ribbon to size, wrapped it around the box and taped it where it would be hidden by the tag. then i just taped the tags on to the ribbon. simple and fun!

i love love love the pink and orange combo. to “boy” these up it would be really cute with a blue ribbon and tag too. blue and orange is always so striking!

make this: homemade BOY popcorn valentines

This year I decided to make Andy’s valentines about as easy as it gets! You can buy these cute .75 ounce popcorn boxes on amazon (50 for 8.00). With a little cardstock and some microwave popcorn to fill em up, I’m in for about 30-45 minutes total and I think they turned out pretty cute. What do you think?

The other day my cute new neighbor brought us some darling little heart shaped brownies. They were so fun! That got me in the mood to create some valentine treats. Here’s my little spin on it…some sweets for your sweets this valentine’s day…

With a simple box of brownie mix, some toothpicks and a few cut out arrow pieces, you can create a little homemade goodness for your family this valentine’s day that only takes a few cents and a few minutes but gets you BIG brownie points. (yes, pun intended. )

Make This: How to Make Adorable Matchbox Valentines

I have been saving this one for you for almost a year!! I ran across it last year just after valentines and saved these pictures to share this year just in time for valentines. They are seriously SO cute and easy. I am headed to albertsons today to grab some matchboxes (about $1.50 for 10 boxes) and make these myself.

Grab some scraps of paper and ribbon, some tape and a heart punch and you’ve got yourself some homemade valentines in minutes…
